Ontario’s Crown Forest Sustainability Act
Forestry on Crown lands in Ontario are now governed by the provisions of the Crown Forest Sustainability Act (CFSA, 1994). The purpose of the CFSA is to provide for the sustainability of Ontario’s Crown forests and, in accordance with that objective, to manage the Crown forests to meet the social, economic and environmental needs of present and future generations. Sustainability with respect to this act means “long term Crown forest health”.

As part of planning for sustainability in our forests, a forest management plan is prepared for each and every forest management unit in Ontario. The plan must be approved prior to any forestry activities taking place. Mazinaw-Lanark Forest Inc. is the “plan author” for the Forest Management Plan that applies to the Mazinaw-Lanark Forest management unit.
